About
Ian Pollock Primarily self-taught artist working exclusively in
bronze, has been attracted by art, ever since he was a young child.
His work is a sort of three dimensional diary of his daily existence. The
bronzes are cast in the liberties area of Dublin by cast Ltd. art foundry
using a 'cire perdue' (lost wax) method in ceramic shell moulds.
Ian Pollock's sculptures have a quality and life all their own. Most of the
work is exclusive one off pieces with the exception of a few editions. Every
bronze receives complete personalised attention from the artist all the way
to the final waxing and the signing of the finished artwork. In
pursuit of excellence he has compiled meticulous craftsmanship in the truly
magnificent art medium of bronze sculpture. His work has been exhibited and
sold through top rated juried shows and galleries throughout Ireland including
the RHA, RUA and the Oireachtas. Collections include the Office of Public Works,
University College Dublin and the Vocational Educational Committees (VEC's)
as well as private collections in Europe and the USA. Collectors of his work
include the financier, Dermot Desmond, the poet and professor Brendan Kennelly andthe actor Patrick Bergin.
His most recent commission
was an eleven foot flight of birds for Largy College in Clones, Co. Monaghan. He was also a recent winner of the RUA Mullan Gallery prize for sculpture in 2003.
Bronze
is a very satisfying medium to work with and has a timeless quality. Knowing
that what he has created will last for centuries gives the artist the
gratified feeling that the time it takes to get it right is worthwhile. In
today's world of deposible items bronze is different. It is a medium that
is virtually indestructible and pieces that were created thousands of
years ago are still being enjoyed by many throughout the world. When
a bronze sculpture is added to your collection it is an item that can be passed
down from generation to generation. Enjoy your visit through Ian
Pollock's gallery. To discuss any of the sculpture shown or a possible
collaboration on a commissioned piece please feel free to contact the artist.
